While Nadira searches for answers, Jonathan is enticed into the hedonistic world of the Novacorp executive class. His entertainment club attracts the elite of Hathor, but his notoriety comes with a price.

The worlds of the Guardians and Novacorp are put on a collision course where only one side may come out on top. Nadira is called on to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the legacy of the First Families, the original settlers of Hathor, while Guardians, Kasema and Deshtu are faced with the choice to unite or be brought completely under Novacorp control.

Old scores are settled and long-hidden truths are revealed, and at the end Nadira and Jonathan’s relationship and their world will never be the same.

Excerpt

In this scene Jonathan Keel finds out the price of his new-found fame as a club owner on Hathor and member of the elite executive class.

It wasn’t surprising to see crowds in the Entertainments district, but this was the Palatine. Usually there weren’t as many people hanging out on the streets. Security patrols ensured that the tourists moved along, aided by Guardian Watchers who kept a low profile while they were observing.

Unfortunately it wasn’t until the door of his transport opened that Jon had an answer to his question. Someone screamed and the mob converged on him, about 3 of them managing to stuff themselves into the doorway just as he tried to get in. Hands grabbed his shirt and jacket, pulling so hard he felt the fabric rip.

“Stop it! Get away from me!” he yelled, but it didn’t do any good. In fact, his reaction only seemed to fuel the intensity. The more he tried to pull away, the more hands gripped him. One woman pressed her lips against his, while a man grabbed at his hair.

“Jonathan! I love you!” The woman who had kissed him continued to press her lips all over his face.

“Get off!” He grabbed the woman’s furry purple jacket, but just came away with a handful of puffs of fake fur. “Close the door!” Maybe if the transport door could close, he could get these idiots to let him go.

“Sorry, sir, the door cannot close while passengers are entering.” the computerized voice replied. “Please clear the doorway of obstructions.”

“Damn it! I can’t clear it!” he snapped just before the sleeve of his jacket separated from the rest of it.

“Jonathan! Come out!”

“Jonathan!”

“Stop pushing, he’s mine!”

He felt himself being dragged out of the vehicle as hands continued to claw at his clothes and fingernails scratched his skin. For a moment it was like floating. He had no control over his own body as he felt himself being carried. All he saw were faces grinning at him and hands grabbing, obscuring the blue sky so that he felt like he was being smothered.

“Citizens! Stand off! Citizens!” Muffled voices broke through the squeals and screams, and Jon saw shiny black helmets hovering above him. His senses were in overdrive, making his stomach churn and overwhelming him with the sensation of being buried alive under the crush of writhing bodies.

Air. He had to get air right away. The feeling of being smothered was like being closed up in a mine shaft. Panic rumbled through his body, thundering up into his chest as his heartbeat accelerated. Prepared for fight or flight, he wrenched one arm out and worked to free the other.

“Citizens!” Black garbed security officers were pulling people off him, tossing them to the side in an effort to free him.

Finally the last person was pulled away and Jon found himself kneeling on the marble sidewalk. He saw something dark red drops on the ground and realized it was blood.

Book Spotlight: A Most Intriguing Temptation by Kelli A Wilkins

A Most Intriguing Temptationby Kelli A. Wilkins

Hi everyone,

Today I’m sharing an inside look and spotlighting the making of my historical/fantasy romance, A Most Intriguing Temptation. This book is the second story in the Royal Desires trilogy that began with A Most Unusual Princess and ends with A Most Unfortunate Prince. Together, they make up a fun series, but each story stands alone as a separate read. Why? Because when I wrote A Most Unusual Princess, I never knew I was writing a trilogy.

A Most Intriguing Temptation focuses on the theme of fidelity. Our headstrong Princess Elara wants to test Dalton’s loyalty, so she masquerades as Oonish, a sultry kharim girl in a pleasure palace. She teases and tempts Dalton at every turn and thinks her game is all in fun—until she gets in over her head and lands in big trouble.

I enjoyed taking Elara out of her element and giving her new experiences. I also got to show a different side to Dalton’s character as he (and readers) learn about his weaknesses and desires. He loves Elara, and yet, Oonish is tempting… This unique storyline was an interesting way to showcase Dalton and Elara’s relationship, discuss their views on trust, and see how they interact and respond to challenges in their lives.

A Most Intriguing Temptation was fun to write. It has a little bit of everything: adventure, humor, sizzling love scenes, an element of danger, and even a drop of sadness. This book also introduces readers to Elara’s charming, womanizing, “bad-boy” brother, Prince Allan.

When readers ask me if I ever have characters who want to “run away” with a story, I always point to Allan. By the end of A Most Intriguing Temptation, I knew Allan needed his own story, and so A Most Unfortunate Prince was born! I’ll be sharing more about him in my next blog.

Here’s the book summary and a brief (tame) excerpt:

A Most Intriguing Temptation

After only four months of marriage to Princess Elara, Prince Dalton is sent to Emperor Salizar’s pleasure palace on business. Not wanting to be left behind, Elara risks her personal safety and sneaks along on the trip.

Aided by her mischievous brother, Prince Allan, she disguises herself as one of Salizar’s sultry kharim women and decides to test Dalton’s loyalty. Masquerading as Oonish, Elara goes out of her way to tempt Dalton at every turn. Despite Dalton’s resolve to resist the indulgent girls, he finds himself falling under the spell of the mysterious Oonish.

After nearly giving in to temptation, Dalton discovers Elara’s trickery and turns the tables on her, making her into his submissive playmate. Their fun and games are quickly shattered when Emperor Salizar learns about Elara’s deception. He holds the royals prisoner and condemns Elara to a fate worse than death.

Can Dalton save Elara before it’s too late, or will her prank bring about the end of their love?

Bonus! This e-book includes a sneak peek at the third book in the “Royal Desires” series: A MOST UNFORTUNATE PRINCE.

The Excerpt:
Dalton rolled over in his sleep. He heard bells jingling again. What was Oonish doing now? He’d told her to stay in the outer room. He opened his eyes. Oonish trotted around the foot of the bed. The room was dim and shadowy. How long had he been asleep?

“Good, you’re awake, Your Highness. I would not want you to miss anything.”

“Miss what?” he grumbled and tried to sit up. As he did, he realized that his arms were bent over his head. His wrists were tied to the wrought-iron headboard with long pink scarves.

“What is the meaning of this?” He moved his legs and found that his ankles were bound as well. “I order you to untie me, now.”

“Nay, Your Highness. You must stay here and be pleasured. It is my duty,” Oonish said as she unhooked her belt. Her scarves and bells fell to the carpet, revealing her tiny covering.

He looked away. What was she going to do? “I wish for you to–”

“You wish for this,” she said, turning her back to him and wiggling her buttocks.

He swallowed hard. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, Oonish was enticing…

Excerpt

This scene happens after Nadira has received disturbing news about what happened to her father, who was reported lost while on a deep space mission. According to Mikal, the former Guardian who tried to overthrow the Guardian Elders (in book 2, Hathor Legacy: Burn), the Guardian Elders were behind her father’s disappearance.

“Good evening, Sentry Leader Nadira. What is your desired location?” The computerized voice inquired.

“Take me home,” she replied as she settled back into her seat. Their apartment was in a tower only about 15 minutes from this one. But by the looks of the clogged traffic lanes, the trip would probably take longer. This main boulevard led through the Entertainments District, one of the busiest areas of the city.

“Tell me what happened. Why do you think they killed your parents? Where did you get that?”

The transport pulled out into the traffic lane and slowly rumbled down the boulevard. Nadira looked out over the crowd, just in case she saw Zina among them. She knew it was a waste of time, if anything Zina would be in her private transport.

“I went to see Mikal at the detention center. He told me everything. My father got to the penal colony. He wasn’t lost out there. They had him killed.”

Jon opened his mouth to reply, then sagged against the cushions. “You went to see Mikal? And you believe him? Are you serious?”

“Why would he lie?”

“Is that a real question?” Jon sighed. “He’s trying to set you up. Don’t you see? He’s a liar and a killer.”

“He found my father’s ship, Jon. That wasn’t a lie.” She couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t listen. He had his mind made up and it was pissing her off.

“I know what he did at the medi-evac, Nadira. I figured it out when Maji told me she and Azure had gone there the morning after they took me to detention. I asked her to tell me everything and she did.” He reached over and grasped her hand. “He’s not getting another chance to hurt you.”

“Jon…”

“No more. Don’t see him again and don’t believe anything he says.”

Usually when they talked like this, their communication remained verbal. But right now she felt his energy on the edge of hers. It felt like sparks off a drill, stinging her with its insistence. His anger at Mikal was still fresh, as though it had all just happened yesterday.

“I have to know the truth. Either Zina or Elder Azure is going to tell me.”

“What about Elder Dakar?” Jon asked.

“He’s sick and not receiving visitors. His sister Jen’s orders.”

Jon sighed. “All they’ve done is hurt you, but I’d trust Azure before I’d ever trust Mikal.”

She felt his resignation and his disgust. But she felt his mood wasn’t only to do with her news. “Jonathan, what is it? There’s something else bothering you. I feel it.”

“I don’t want to go into it now, ashira.” He squeezed her hand.  “The club…it’s nothing. Don’t worry about it. Right now, I only want to protect you…but I know that I can’t.”
