How to Create a Vision for Your Success

how to create a vision for your success

Don’t confuse having a vision with having daydreams – though one can lead to the other. If you spend a lot of time picturing yourself in a new career or living in a different place, then those daydreams can point you in the direction of your vision.

Too often daydreams are dismissed as time wasters because we tend to undervalue dreams in general. However once you start to see those images and allow yourself to feel good about what you are seeing, you are now connecting with your vision.

An extremely important component of these images is your feelings about them. Those feelings are what will propel you forward and help you to manifest your vision into reality.

Just as athletes picture themselves performing their sports before they actually do them, you must also picture yourself living your vision-and you must experience the feelings associated with that vision.

You may find that once you connect with your vision that it is uncomfortable for you to accept that it can be yours. I’ve had this experience a few times. I wanted something so bad, then I created the vision for it and felt the feelings of achieving it. But the feelings of achievement were intimidating and I backed off.

It’s hard to imagine backing off from something you say you want, but that happens all too often. Perhaps it seems to big for us to achieve or we’re afraid to claim it for our own.

If you’ve spent a lifetime being told that you’ll never get what you want and to put your desires last (or forget them entirely) it won’t be easy to accept that your vision can become real.

Sometimes we back off because we don’t want to give up our anxieties and fears. If we’ve told ourselves a story that says we will always be defeated by life, then it’s going to be hard to step into the role of victor. If this vision goes against our own beliefs, then we’ll simply release the vision. That’s why it is important to do the inner work first so that we can clear the way for the vision to become real.

You should also write down your thoughts and feelings about achieving this goal. Even if you don’t regularly journal, it’s okay. Don’t let that stop you writing your ideas down. Keep a book or small notebook that you can carry with you wherever you go. Not only can it be used for your vision, but for your ideas and feelings about things in general. You’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish when you start writing things down!

If you don’t have a clear picture of what you want to accomplish it will become all too easy to become distracted and lose your way.

Without a vision you can end up running from one thing to another, trying to be all things to everyone. You can lose sight of what you really desire, which can ultimately lead you to ultimately giving up.

Getting Started

Begin by using your imagination. Involve all of your senses! Allow yourself to fully step into the experience. See it, feel it, be in it. Write about it! Create a vision board and place it where you can see it daily.

Having a vision will help get you through the down times. Your vision, your passion and your purpose will be like fuel propelling you forward in your journey.
